What is acupuncture?

one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the
world. Acupuncture involves stimulation of anatomical points on
the body with a thin, solid, sterile, metallic needles. The acupunc-
ture points used vary, depending on the client's complaints and
findings at examination..
What does acupuncture feel like?
People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or
minimal discomfort as the needles are inserted. Some people are
energized by treatments while others feel relaxed. The FDA
approved acupuncture needles for use by licensed and qualified
practitioners in 1996.

menstrual problems, menopausal problems, and most gynecological
complaints, uncomplicated respiratory disorders, fibromyalgia,
myofascial pain, dental pain, osteoarthritis carpal tunnel syndrome,
nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea,
constipations, and other digestive disrders, stroke rehabilitation,
postoperative and chemotherapy nausea.
How many treatments will you need?
This depends on the condition and duration and severity of the
complaints. Generally, from five to fifteen treatments are
adequate for most chronic ailments or problems. Many acute
conditions may require only one visit or two.
How does acupuncture work?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), health is maintained
when the body's two forces, yin and yang, are in balance.
Continued yin/yang imbalances will ultimately lead to blockages in
the flow of Qi (vital energy) along Qi meridians, which results in
illnesses. There are 12 main Qi meridians and 8 extraordinary Qi
meridians and there are more than 2,000 acupuncture points on the
human body which connect with these meridians. In TCM,
acupuncture is one of the key modalities to enhancing the flow of
Qi.
In my practice, I generally use acupuncture in combination with
Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition, and qi gong therapies. My goal
is to attain the optimum result and to promote vitality and wellness
for my patients.
